Tower of London poppies tickets, dates and details as they return for 2025 VE Day

To mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, a new commemorative display of ceramic poppies will be installed at the heart of the Tower of London. Nearly 30,000 of the original poppies made for the 2014 installation ‘Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red ’’ will return to the Tower to honour the sacrifices made by the nation during the Second World War.

On display from Tuesday, May 6 to Tuesday, November 11 2025, the exhibition times will coincide with the 80th anniversary of VE Day on May 8, running until Armistice Day. The display of poppies will resemble a wound at the centre of the Tower, which was bombed during The Blitz. Poppies will be placed across the lawn overlooked by the White Tower, where the blood-red flowers will form rippling craters.

Within the Tower, the poignant image will remind visitors of the long-lasting consequences of conflict. With the anniversary in mind, the shared space will be a place for visitors to remember and reflect on the collective sacrifice of many people.

The poppies are on loan from Imperial War Museums and were designed and made by the artist, Paul Cummins. The new display has been created by the designer, Tom Piper. The Tower of London is home to a community of veterans today, and has become the site of two major national commemorations marking the beginning and the end of the centenary of the First World War.

The Tower suffered significant aerial bombardment during the Second World War in the Blitz, alongside the rest of the East End of London. At the end of the War, the fortress was floodlit, as a beacon of hope for a new beginning.
