History Comes Alive at the Tower of London This October Half-Term

This October half-term, families can experience a living chapter of British history as the Tower of London brings to life its fascinating post-war years through Flight, Camera, Action!

Running from 25 October to 2 November 2025, the interactive event invites visitors to uncover the Tower’s lesser-known role in London’s recovery after the Second World War.

Stepping into the shoes of a roving reporter, visitors will explore the remarkable stories of heroism, restoration, and resilience that defined the Tower’s community after it reopened in 1946.

Explore the Hidden History of Post-War London

As part of the experience, guests will encounter historical characters in authentic 1940s dress, each with unique tales to tell. From the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force who operated the Tower’s barrage balloons to the heartwarming bravery of GI Joe the pigeon, every story shines a light on how Londoners rebuilt their city and their spirits in the aftermath of war.

These immersive encounters take place across the Tower’s historic grounds, where costumed performers bring the era’s energy and optimism vividly to life. Whether visitors choose to interact as journalists gathering stories or simply enjoy the performances, Flight, Camera, Action! promises an unforgettable glimpse into a moment of hope and renewal in Britain’s history.

A Sea of Poppies: Remembering 80 Years Since the End of WWII

At the heart of the Tower, a breathtaking installation of 30,000 ceramic poppies marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. This poignant tribute echoes the Tower’s famous 2014 display, Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red, and commemorates the fortress’s enduring connection to wartime remembrance.

The installation is open until 11 November, offering visitors a moving opportunity to reflect on the Tower’s wartime legacy and the courage of those who served.

Presented by Historic Royal Palaces and HistoryRiot

The event is produced by Historic Royal Palaces (HRP) — the independent charity that cares for the Tower of London — in collaboration with HistoryRiot. The result is a unique experience that blends education, theatre, and heritage for families and history enthusiasts alike.

Flight, Camera, Action! is included with standard admission to the Tower, ensuring that every visitor can enjoy the performances as part of their day exploring one of the world’s most famous landmarks. For more information, visit the official Tower of London website.
