Tokyo has been named the world’s top city for food lovers, beating culinary giants such as Paris and London. The Japanese capital is leading a surge in popularity for Asian cuisine, with Japan claiming three of the top 10 spots.

This trend is backed up by Google Trends, which reported a 240% increase in searches for ‘East Asian cuisine’ in the last quarter alone. Tokyo’s win is largely due to its staggering 203 Michelin-starred restaurants, more than any other city globally.

It also boasts 357 food-related activities on TripAdvisor, from street food tours to cooking classes, and was ranked first for affordable dining options, reports the Express.

Japan’s dominance in the global food scene is solidified by being the only country to appear multiple times in the top 10, with Osaka and Kyoto ranking fifth and eighth, respectively.

And the inclusion of Hong Kong (seventh) and Seoul (ninth) in the top 10 highlighted the dominance of Asian cities in the global food scene.
